PUTIN WANTS SOME ACTION

A foreboding “urgent action bulletin” released by the Federal Security Services (FSB) states that President Putin this morning declared that a “State of Red War” now exists and has ordered an “immediate deployment” of the much feared and highly secretive Spetsgruppa A (Alpha Group) forces into Ukraine to counter the estimated 2,000 Takfiri terrorist fighters being deployed from Syria into Kiev by the Obama regime.

A “State of Red War” declaration means that a conflict within or outside of Russia’s borders endangers a “significant” number of Russian speaking peoples and could possibly soon escalate into a “State of Total War”, the latter which allows for the use of nuclear weapons and a full-scale deployment of military forces.

Alfa Group is a dedicated counter-terrorism unit that belongs to OSNAZ of the FSB, or more specifically the “A” Directorate of the FSB Special Operations Center (TsSN). It is currently believed to consist of 700 persons, 400 assigned to the Moscow Detachment and the remaining 300 located in other cities in Russia.

Alfa Group’s primary function is believed to be to carry out urban counter-terrorist missions under the direct sanction and control of the Russian political leadership. However, little is publicly known and other plausible missions would include a variety of paramilitary, policing and/or covert operations.

As we had previously reported too, Alfa Group forces were deployed on 24 February to the Crimea oblast after Putin had warned NATO that Russia would go to war to protect this vital region after the US-backed coup in Ukraine toppled its elected government.

To understand the frightening fierceness of Alpha Group forces one only need remember October 1985 when they were dispatched to Beirut after four Russian diplomats had been taken hostage by militant Sunni Muslims.

By the time Alfa Group was onsite, one of the hostages had already been killed. The perpetrators and their relatives were identified by supporting intelligence operatives, and the latter were taken hostage.

Following the standard policy of “no negotiation”, Alfa Group proceeded to sever some of their hostages’ body parts and sent them to the perpetrators with a warning that more would follow if the Russian hostages were not released immediately. The tactic was a success and no other Russian national was taken hostage in the Middle East for the next 20 years.

To the need of Alpha Group forces in the Ukraine battle zone, this report says, was underscored by reports of Takfiri terrorist fighters now being deployed by the Obama regime and their Saudi Arabian allies to terrify and kill Russian speaking peoples.

The grim news of these Takfiri terrorist fighters entering Ukraine has been further verified by the FNA News Service who in their report writes:

“A large number of terrorist Takfiri fighters in Syria, who bear Saudi and Chechnian nationalities and receive financial and military backup from the Saudi intelligence agency, have been transferred to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on several planes to help the Ukrainian army in its fight against the pro-Russian population,” an Arab security official told FNA on Sunday on the condition of anonymity due to the secrecy of the issue.

“The forces have been immediately dispatched to Kramatorsk city in Eastern Ukraine, and are now fighting beside the Ukrainian army forces against the pro-Russians under the name of militias who support the government,” the source added.

The source explained that Saudi Arabia seeks to take revenge from Russia and pro-Russian people in Ukraine due to Moscow’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the war on rebel groups.

Last Summer, former Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar reportedly offered Russian President Putin a deal, saying if Russia abandoned Syria, Saudi Arabia would protect the Sochi Olympics from Islamic terrorists. Putin angrily rebuffed the offer. In January, two terrorist bombings, for which the Saudis were blamed, happened only 400 miles away from the site of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.”

To whom are directing these Takfiri terrorist fighters in Ukraine, this report continues, there is little doubt it is the Obama regimes Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) whose forces have deployed in huge numbers into Kiev, and as we had previously reported, on 4 May, have already incurred casualties.

After the “Horror In Odessa” last Friday, this report says, these Alpha Group forces are now “urgently needed” in an area where neo-Nazi Ukrainian forces backed by the Obama regime burned alive nearly 50 pro-federalist supporters that these sadistic Kiev activist called “our May barbecue”, and other activists sang the Ukrainian national anthem and hurled a new taunt: “Colorado” for the Colorado potato beetle, striped red and black like the pro-Russian ribbons. Those outside chanted “burn Colorado, burn,” witnesses said. Swastika-like symbols were spray painted on the building, along with graffiti reading “Galician SS”.

To justify the use of these Takfiri terrorist fighters, this report continues, the Obama regime coup-installed government in Kiev is now calling them “volunteers” and have begun organizing them into “special forces brigades” they are now moving them into Eastern Ukraine to battle the pro-federalists.

But not just to fighting pro-federalist forces are these Takfiri terrorist fighters being tasked, this report warns, but also to targeting innocent civilians, and as we can, in part, read as reported by the RT News Service:

“A 30-year-old civilian woman died after being shot in the head by sniper fire while standing on her balcony in Slavyansk. RT’s Paula Slier visited shocked relatives of the victim, who say a Ukrainian army sniper is responsible, though they don’t know why. Irina, who was head of a department at a technical college in Slavyansk, never took part in any protests or fighting. However, when standing on her balcony and waiting for her husband to come home from a nearby garage, the woman was targeted by an unidentified sniper. Neighbors said they heard a popping sound coming from the trees opposite her window.”

As the Obama regimes hypocrisy over Ukraine is now being called “absolutely stunning”, this report further notes, and with former top US President Ronald Reagan administration official Paul Craig Roberts further warning yesterday that the Obama regime has no intention of allowing the crisis in Ukraine to be resolved, but is, instead, seeking to use it destroy Russia, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s dire warning today of total waris much nearing than many realize.

And as we had reported on 29 April when President Putin ordered an “all out” war against the US-backed petrodollar, his signing into law yesterday a bill to create a national card payment system that will destroy the US-EU banks behind Visa and MasterCard will, undoubtedly, cause the Obama regime to rage even more….and by extension make the Ukrainian Crisis even more bloody.

Obama Lands in Europe and Announces He’s Gutting US Military

President Obama highlighted his European roots in an interview with Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, pointing out that the United States was firmly committed to the security of Europe.

During the interview, Obama was asked if his understanding of Europe was different since he lived in Indonesia as a boy and talked about pivoting his attention to Asia.

“We’re linked by heritage and history, with millions of Americans tracing their roots to Europe, including me,” Obama said. “Yes, I was born in Hawaii and spent part of my youth in Indonesia. But it’s also true that through my mother I can trace my ancestry to Europe — to Ireland and Great Britain.” [...]

“As we have told our European allies many times, we want to see more European nations meeting their commitments when it comes to defense spending,” he said. “In the United States, after two wars, we are moving toward a leaner military.”

Obama extends sanctions against Russia to include wealthy Putin allies

White House suggests executive order might not be the end of measures taken in response to Russia’s actions in Ukraine

President Obama has extended financial sanctions against Russia to include wealthy supporters of Vladimir Putin and a bank close to the Kremlin, in a bid to deter Russian military incursions into eastern and southern Ukraine.

Amid growing pressure for a tougher US response to the crisis, the White House also issued a new executive order authorising a co-ordinated economic blockade with the European Union against key Russian industries if the situation escalates.

White House officials also revealed the Pentagon was providing “non-lethal” assistance to the Ukrainian military and claimed there were signs of human rights abuses against minorities in Crimea, including the apparent torture of dead Tatar man and “houses marked in a biblical fashion”.

“We have continued to be deeply concerned by events in Ukraine,” said Obama. “We have seen a illegal referendum in Crimea, an illegitimate move by the Russians to annex Crimea and dangerous risks of escalation.”

“Because of these choices the US is today moving to impose additional costs on Russia. We’re imposing sanctions against more senior officials of the Russian government and in addition we are sanctioning a number of other individuals with substantial resources and influence.”

The additional financial sanctions target 20 new individuals, including eight officials previously identified by the European Union. They extend an initial list announced on Monday to add what the White House calls “Putin’s cronies”.

The previous blacklist of 11 officials shied away from touching top figures or oligarchs.

Most significantly, the new blacklist targets several influential businessmen known to be close to Putin.

Gennady Timchenko, who controls the Gunvor Group, the fourth-largest crude oil trader in the world, has a net worth of $15.3bn and was said by Forbes to be “one of the most powerful people in Russia.”

Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, judo friends of Putin and co-owners of SMP Bank and SGM Group, which provide construction services to state-controlled gas giant Gazprom, were among the elites said to have profited from the Sochi Olympics.

Companies controlled by Arkady Rotenberg won at least $7.4bn worth of contracts related to the Games, Bloomberg reported. He is one of the most influential businessmen in the country, according to Forbes.

The new list also targets Bank Rossiya, which the US claims is the personal bank for senior officials of the Russian Federation.

Among the new Kremlin officials who will face asset freezes are Sergei Ivanov, Putin’s chief of staff, and state Duma chairman Sergei Naryshkin, who has vocally supported Russian intervention in Ukraine. Vladimir Yakunin, the head of state-owned Russian Railways, was also on the list.

All those included will have any US assets frozen and a ban placed on any dealings with US companies, which the White House claims will affect their ability to do business globally.

Several Russian politicians openly mocked earlier White House sanctions against government officials, claiming they did not have any assets that could be hurt by the move and would not deter their policy in Crimea.

But officials in Washington insisted the new steps – together with the threat of co-ordinated action with the EU against Russian industry – were intended to send a signal to deter possible Russian military incursions in eastern and southern Ukraine.

“We are concerned by recent Russian military movements. It would be a significant escalation for Russia to move into southern and eastern Ukraine,” a senior US administration official told reporters. “That is part of the context [of these sanctions]; to send a signal that these key sectors of the Russian economy are in play for sanctions.”

The official added: “Sanctions build over time. They are very powerful. People might think they are a mere wrist slap, but I can assure you they are not.”

Despite calls from Kiev for military support from the US, Obama has made clear that he is not willing to risk American troops in Ukraine and is so far not supplying arms. “We are not going to be getting into a military excursion in Ukraine,” the president said in an interview on Wednesday.

But White House officials confirmed on Thursday that the Pentagon was already providing “non lethal assistance” to Ukraine – a phrase that could indicate intelligence and satellite imagery, or equipment such as night-vision goggles. They also said the US had evidence that Moscow had closed its border to Ukrainian goods entering Russia, imposing “an effective trade embargo”.

In retaliation to the US economic sanctions, Moscow has also announced its own financial blacklist including White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, senators John McCain and Harry Reid and House speaker John Boehner.

The White House decision to blacklist some of Putin’s closest aides piled the pressure on Europe to get tougher with Russia, although the Europeans have immeasurably more at stake in an escalating sanctions war with Moscow.

The Europeans were expected to acquiesce to Russia’s seizure of the Crimea from Ukraine while talking up the prospects of a potential trade war with Moscow if Putin expands his territorial ambitions beyond the Black Sea peninsula.

A summit of EU leaders in Brussels wrestled with a response to what is broadly seen as the most significant act of destabilisation in Europe since the end of the cold war. They were expected to blacklist at least a further 10 Russian and Crimean officials, adding to the 21 who were barred from travelling to the EU and had their assets frozen on Monday.

The new names were believed to mirror those sanctioned by the US administration earlier this week. The Europeans also called off an EU-Russia summit scheduled for June in Sochi, but remained deeply divided about escalating the dispute with the Kremlin for fear of the damage that Moscow could do to the Europeans in a full-blown trade war.

Extraordinary measures were taken at the summit to preserve confidentiality, signaling the sensitivity of the debate among 28 national leaders. The president of the European Council, Herman van Rompuy, chairing the summit, barred all aides and advisers to the government chiefs from Thursday evening’s dinner and insisted no mobile phones or other electronic devices be allowed. There was no known precedent for such measures in the history of EU summitry, diplomats said.

German chancellor Angela Merkel said that the EU would move to economic and financial sanctions against Russia if Putin extended the conflict beyond Crimea. But Berlin also recognized that the peninsula was a lost cause.

“It has to be said clearly [by Moscow] that Russia is not pursuing any territorial interests beyond Crimea,” said the German foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The pressure from Washington also strengthened the hand of David Cameron, the British prime minister, who led calls for more robust action against Russia. Confidential diplomatic cables seen by the Guardian confirmed that Britain was spearheading demands that the EU prepare financial and trade sanctions against Moscow, known as stage three of the sanctions regime.

“The UK in particular has expressed the expectation that the European Council [summit] take concrete measures on the next steps,” said a cable. The British were calling for “emergency planning” on stage three sanctions while also declaring that the pain in Europe from the expected Russian reprisals had to be spread “equally”.

“What Russia has done is unacceptable,” said Cameron. “The countries of the European Union need to speak with a clear and united voice. What that means is more asset freezes and travel bans, more actions specifically in respect of what has happened in the Crimea, but also it means making sure that we do everything we can to help build a strong and democratic Ukraine.”

Thursday night’s confidential dinner debate was expected to focus for the first time on broadening financial and trade sanctions on Russia, their impact, and the likely effect on European countries from the certain Russian retaliation.

The leaders were expected to warn Putin of the possible move towards a trade war, hoping that this would act as a deterrent, said senior EU diplomats. Other officials said the summit might move beyond the blacklisting of officials by agreeing an arms embargo on Russia, a move that might be opposed by France which has billions at stake in defence contracts with Moscow.

John Kerry: Russia has until Monday to reverse course in Ukraine

Secretary of State John Kerry warned of serious repercussions forRussia on Monday if last-ditch talks over the weekend to resolve the crisis in Ukraine failed to persuade Moscow to soften its stance.

Kerry will travel to London for a Friday meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ahead of a Sunday referendum vote in theCrimea region to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation.

U.S. and European officials argue that Moscow is orchestrating the referendum and waging an intimidation campaign with thousands of Russian troops controlling the region. If Russian-backed lawmakers in Crimea go through with the Sunday referendum, Kerry said the U.S. and its European allies will not recognize it as legitimate under international law.

The U.S. and Europe on Monday would then unite to impose sanctions on Russia, Kerry told aSenate Appropriations subcommittee Thursday during a hearing on the State Department'sbudget.

“There will be a response of some kind to the referendum itself,” Kerry said. “If there is no sign [from Russia] of any capacity to respond to this issue ... there will be a very serious series of steps on Monday.”

“Our hope is to have Russia join in respecting international law. ... There is no justification, no legality to this referendum that is taking place,” he said. “The hope is that reason will prevail but there is no guarantee of that.”

RT: NATO starts air drills close to Ukraine’s borders . . . and I’ll huff and I’ll puff . . . :)

NATO has begun wargames in Poland as recently dispatched US jets are set to take part in the exercises. Poor weather has delayed naval maneuvers in the Black Sea, with the US saying both drills were planned before the outbreak of unrest in Ukraine.

The air drills began on Tuesday at the Lask Air Base in central Poland. Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski was present as the exercises commenced, standing by as four Polish F-16s lifted off. A US Hercules transport plane landed with support staff, while at least 12 US F-16 fighter jets and 300 personnel are due to arrive by Thursday.

Komorowski, without directly naming Crimea, said “events to the east” provided a reason to protect military spending in an age of austerity.

“I hope events to the east of the Polish border, which is also NATO’s border, will encourage tough decisions regarding Polish security,” Reuters cites him as saying.

The decision to deploy the US jets followed a phone conversation between US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and his Polish counterpart Tomasz Siemoniak on Sunday. Washington insisted the air exercise was planned long in advance, though Siemoniak maintains the exercise was to have been smaller, only involving transport aircraft.

Following recent events in Crimea, however, Siemoniak asked the Pentagon to send fighter jets instead.

Ukraine’s Ousted Leader Urges Military to Resist New Government

As Russia tightened its grip on Crimea, Ukraine’s ousted president appealed on Tuesday to the country’s military units to refuse to follow the orders of the new interim authorities, declaring that he remained commander in chief and would return to the country as soon as conditions permitted.Appearing in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don for the first time since the scale of Russia’s intervention in Crimea became evident, the ousted leader, Viktor F. Yanukovych, denounced the West for rushing to recognize and to provide financial assistance to a government he said was a junta.“You do not have any legal grounds to provide financial assistance to these bandits,” Mr. Yanukovych said, specifically questioning a $1 billion pledge from the United States to Ukraine. He cited an American law prohibiting aid to governments that take power in a coup.Mr. Yanukovych’s claims to political legitimacy at home – though supported by few in Ukraine or even in Russia – did little to suggest that a negotiated political solution to the crisis in Ukraine would be found soon.
