A post-dollar world may emerge with a global currency that could be backed by gold, Currency Wars author Jim Rickards argues in his latest book.

A further collapse of the global economy and a resulting demise of the US dollar as the reserve currency could trigger a move to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Special Drawing Rights, which may then be backed by gold at $9,000 per ounce, Rickards says.

"$9,000 per ounce is a good first approximation of the non-deflationary price of gold in a global gold-backed SDR standard," Rickards writes in his new book, The Death of Money.

"In Currency Wars I said it was late but not too late to avoid a collapse of confidence in the dollar. But now I believe that, while the catastrophe is not upon us, we may have passed the point of no return," he tells The Bullion Desk in an exclusive interview.

"The biggest problem is that policymakers and the central bankers are using the wrong models - their models do not accord with realities," he says.

"Kurdistan oil revenues will be distributed on basis of federal budget  effective June 21, 2014."  This is important because Kurdistan's budget was not going to go into effect until the RV occures. NZ signs historic currency deal with China

New Zealand's economic ties with China have been strengthened with a deal to allow direct trading of the New Zealand dollar against the Chinese currency the renminbi or yuan.

The deal, struck relatively swiftly negotiations began in April last year, will reduce costs for exporters and importers by removing the necessity for transactions to be settled in two foreign exchange trades via a third currency - usually the US dollar.

Prime Minister John Key and China's Premier Li Keqiang announced the agreement after meeting at the Great Hall of the People during Key's first day of an official visit to China this evening.

"It's great to have been in Beijing to witness the conclusion of negotiations to launch direct trading of the New Zealand and Chinese currencies, which I kicked off during talks with President Xi on the margins of the Bo'ao Forum in April 2013", Key said.

"I am delighted that the project has been brought to a successful conclusion so quickly.

It highlights the strong relationship and goodwill between New Zealand and China."
